I am so excited to be finally opening the doors of The Botanical Cake Studio for the first London Sugar Flower Classes! The first available dates will consist of two Group Workshops focusing on a selection of Spring and early Summer sugar flowers. Here’s a few words about the inspiration behind the classes…

“Spring 1” Workshop

The “Spring 1” Workshop will take place on Saturday 11th March and will focus on two key Spring flowers: the tulip and daffodil. I am a huge fan of the array of different daffodil varieties available and so we will be steering clear of the traditional yellow and orange. Instead I have opted for citrus sorbet in the form of one of my favourites, Narcissus “Replete”. This stunning double variety can range from corals to apricot hues and creates a beautiful statement in any flower arrangement.

The tulip that I have chosen for the class is loosely based on the “Belle Epoque” variety blending apricot, pink and coffee colours. I have simplified the tulip to just 6 petals but included the lovely ruffled edges found on this particular variety. Whilst going down a Pinterest wormhole, thanks to the “Belle Epoque”, this led to a tea rose of the same name. With wonderful curling reflexed petals, I chose this as the third flower to compliment the arrangement and softened the colours to caramel and burnt orange hues.

“Spring 2” Workshop

The second group workshop that I will be teaching this Spring is actually based around early Summer flowers. I am hugely inspired by the incredible florist Yasmine Mei. If you have ever searched for peony pictures on Pinterest, you will very likely have come across Yasmine’s amazing bouquets. Lots of paper flower artists have turned their hand to representing Yasmine’s work and so I am now going to teach my students a sugar version! The arrangement will include white Claire de Lune peonies, pops of orange with buddleja globosa and soft lilac sweet peas.

What’s included in the Workshops?

As well as learning how to make these 3 individual flowers per class, students will also learn how to arrange them. A dummy cake and luxury silk ribbon will be provided to each student in order to display and take home their finished masterpieces! All tools and materials will be provided on the day along with a light lunch and refreshments. I have also created step-by-step PDF cheatsheets for each flower listing tools and materials used along with comprehensive methods.

If you would like further details on either of the classes including timings and how to book, you can find it here. Can’t make these dates or want to learn something different? I am now available for bespoke 1-1 classes too so get in touch with me directly to talk about what you would like to learn. You can find out more about my private 1-1 sugar flower classes here.
