It’s been a fantastic first year of opening the doors of my London studio to offer the first in-person private sugar flower classes! I’ve met so many lovely students along the way and wanted to share their fabulous work with you. I’ve also put together a bit of a rundown of what you can expect from my private sugar flower classes. So read on to find out what a day at the studio entails…

What can I expect from a 1-1 class?

A 1-1 class is the perfect way for you to get to grips with sugar flowers. Whether you a complete newbie, need a bit of a refresher or are more experienced and want to learn something new, a private class lets us work on whatever you want to work on at your own pace.

How long does the class last?

My standard class hours are 10am-4pm which includes a short break for lunch. I will keep you watered with regular refreshments, provide you with a light lunch and a little sugar fix (usually in brownie form) in the afternoon! If you have any dietary requirements, just let me know and I will happily cater to them.

Do I need to bring anything?

No! I will provide all of the tools and materials needed on the day. I want to maximise the time we have together so you don’t need to worry about taking notes. You will receive access to any online classes (where available) for flowers that we cover so that you can go away and practice with the help of my video tutorials and cheat sheets. I will send you a follow up email after the class with access details for the online school. I will also send over any links to relevant YouTube tutorials. Where tutorials are not yet available, I will email over instructions with petals counts, tools needed etc to serve as a memory prompt. Essentially, I will provide the notes so that you don’t have to take them.

How much will we cover?

We will always work to your own pace and so the amount covered can vary from student to student. Typically though in a 1 day beginner’s class, we will cover 1 large flower, 1-2 fillers and some foliage. In a 2 day, we can cover 2-3 larger flowers, some filler flowers and foliage. In a 3 day intensive class, we are able to cover a lot more. Below is an example of a recent 3 day beginner’s class where we covered a reflexed rose, David Austin rose, dahlia “Labyrinth”, Claire de Lune peony, clematis, sweet peas, hydrangea and a selection of foliage. If you are looking to cover a wide range of flowers then I would definitely recommend a 3 day class.

What flowers do you teach?

Anything goes really! For beginners I have certain flowers that I recommend starting with such as my reflexed rose. This is a large statement rose which gives you a really good feel for working with flower paste and the techniques required. I also recommend including a flower with wired petals so that you can learn how to add wires to your paste and tape the petals together. If you are more experienced and are looking for something a bit different, just get in touch to discuss what you would like to learn and I will happily chat through some bespoke options. For beginners, I tend to stick to flowers that I have classes for in my Online School to enable you to access the classes to practice afterwards.

How do I book?

Just get in touch! Drop me an email or fill in my contact form and I will come back to you with my upcoming availability. I will ask you to detail any previous experience you may have and whether there is anything in particular you would like to learn. We can then go from there! A 50% deposit is required to secure your date and the final balance is then due one month before the class. My full class terms can be found here.

My studio is based at my home in SE12, South East London, United Kingdom. The studio is a clean and calm space separate from my home. I pride myself on providing a relaxed and welcoming environment to make my students feel at ease.
